1) Can I get my ESA letter online?
Yes, ESA letters issued online hold the same legal validity as those issued in-person as long as the person writing the letter is a state-certified therapist, doctor, or other mental health professional and the letter meets all the legal requirements.

2) Can I bring or have an emotional support animal on a military base?
No, the US Army considers emotional support animals to be equivalent to “companion animals” and pets. For this reason, the only assistance animals that are eligible to accompany Active Duty Soldiers are trained service dogs.
However, on-base military housing has more lax rules, and you may be able to live with an emotional support animal, depending on further restrictions of the specific base you’re on.
3) Can emotional support animals access VA facilities?
No, VA facilities allow service dogs access, but not ESAs. Animals accompanying veterans must be trained to perform specific tasks to be eligible for access.
4) Can a landlord reject me or charge more because I have an ESA?
No, landlords cannot deny you housing nor charge you more money or any additional deposits because you have an emotional support animal. Having an ESA letter completely waives pet fees, pet deposits, pet rent, and pet application fees.
5) My ESA is a large dog breed, does it qualify?
Yes, as an ESA your dog is protected from discrimination regardless of its size or breed. Landlords can only deny your emotional support animal in certain narrow circumstances. For example, if they have proof that your ESA is a safety or health hazard to other tenants. But they can’t reject an ESA solely based on size or breed.
