How to Qualify For a PSD?

To qualify for a PSD under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the handler must have a psychiatric disability. ESA Doctors pairs you with a licensed professional who determines whether you have a qualifying condition. If you qualify, they will issue a signed PSD letter.

In addition, psychiatric service dogs must be fully trained to perform tasks relating to the handler’s disability.

How to Verify a PSD?

Under the ADA, third parties can ask two questions to verify your PSD:

  1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
  2. What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

Psychiatric service dogs are allowed on flights, free of charge, and must be accommodated in places open to the public.
