Experience

Devene Godau, BA, CPDT-KA, is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer with over 25 years of experience helping dogs and their people succeed. She specializes in puppy development, scent detection work, enrichment, dog sports, and building social and environmental confidence in dogs of all ages.

Her passion for force-free training began after adopting a greyhound and discovering the power of positive reinforcement. She later spent several years professionally raising and training puppies for scent detection programs, with a focus on confidence, resilience, and problem-solving skills.

Devene works with K9 Turbo Training and is the creator of The Distracted Dog Lover, where she shares dog training guidance rooted in positive reinforcement, enrichment, and real-life support for dog owners. Her dog-focused writings have also been published in Walk About Magazine and APDT’s Top Tips From Top Trainers.

Education

Devene earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Michigan State University.

She is a CPDT-KA through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, a Fear Free Certified Professional, and a Canine Enrichment Technician through Dognostics.
